Last week we shared this photo:

Do you remember the Strano block? By 1913, Domenico Strano had established a macaroni factory and bakery on Main Street. According to Huntsville: With Spirit and Resolve by Susan Pryke, “The vibrant Italian community of tannery workers provided a ready market for Strano’s baked goods and range of pastas.”

The building was located between the Methodist parsonage, which was where Town Hall is today, and the Lyceum theatre. The macaroni factory and the Lyceum together occupied the space where the Algonquin Theatre is today. Prior to construction of the theatre, the site was home to a mini-putt course. The Strano block, pictured here sometime in the 1980s, burned down in 1992. (Photo by Dr. N.E. Hunt, courtesy of Muskoka Digital Archives.)
