A pair of Muskoka men were in a Bracebridge courtroom recently to plead guilty to driving while over the limit, stemming from two unrelated incidents.
Jon Terry, 71, and Alexander Addison, 32, pleaded guilty to driving with more than 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood in their system.
In the first instance, court heard that several people called police on the evening of Nov. 5, 2023, to report a possible impaired driver on Hwy 11 in Huntsville. The callers reported that the suspected impaired driver had struck a guardrail. Court heard he then swerved in front of a police vehicle when they arrived on the scene and he appeared intoxicated after being pulled over. The driver, Addison, ultimately blew a reading of 200 mg, more than double the legal limit.
He was sentenced to a $2,000 fine and a one-year driving ban.
In the second incident, police received a call from an employee at a store in downtown Bracebridge. The caller said a customer had come in smelling of alcohol and had stumbled while going through the store. The caller watched the man enter his car and drive away but noted his license plate number.
The police tracked the driver, Terry, to his house where he was still in the driver’s seat.
Terry blew readings of 177 mg of alcohol, again more than twice the legal limit.
He was also fined $2,000 and given a one-year driving ban as well.
