Had you walked into the pharmacy at Braund’s Drug Store in the 1930s, you would likely have been greeted by name. Eight decades later, you’ll still find that same degree of personal service at the pharmacy at Huntsville’s Hometown IDA.
The pharmacy has had just three owners since it opened in 1936—first as Braund’s, then as Huntsville Discount Drugs, and today as Huntsville’s Hometown IDA—and is one of the longest-running pharmacies in Muskoka.
To understand its success, you need look no further than the many people who have remained clients for decades, thanks to the one-to-one assistance of friendly staff as well as helpful services like free delivery.
Your one-stop shop
While its interior and products have changed with the times, Huntsville’s Hometown IDA has retained the same philosophy: friendly service, good value, and access to a wide selection of medical and personal-care products. Huntsville’s Hometown IDA has the largest selection of home healthcare products in town, in addition to all of the other items you’d expect to find in a pharmacy. There’s even giftware, clothing, cosmetics, and games for kids.
The healthcare supplies and equipment available at Huntsville’s Hometown IDA include diabetic, ostomy, continence, and mastectomy supplies, as well as braces, compression socks and stockings, bathroom safety products, breast-feeding pumps, mobility and post-operative aids, canes, and pillows. Wheelchairs, walkers, commodes, and bath benches are available for rent for short-term needs.
Free delivery
If you’re unable to make the trip to the pharmacy, the pharmacy will bring your goods to you! Huntsville’s Hometown IDA offers free delivery both within Huntsville as well as to surrounding areas.

I worked for Lou and Helen for only 6 months, about 20 years ago and I still have fond memories of being there. Fair bosses and a really good team to work with. I still have a friendship with someone I met there, actually. Good times.
Mario the Pharmacist is a super guy.( I don’t miss the other guy!)
Besides his regular duties he has been giving the covid19 vaccines
on a walk in basis for weeks.
The husband and I had our shots there three weeks earlier
than booking one online with the provincial booking system.
Hometown has to be the best, bar none!
There could be no better employers than Ted, Pete and Phyllis Braund. I worked in the Drugstore 1949-53 with Barb Hanes Birtch, Morley Sturgeon and Doreen Woodruff Allen. Doreen stayed with them several years after high school. The Braunds taught us proper work ethics, and a true sense of community. Great memories of growing up in the best town anywhere.
