Returning to Huntsville for its 12th year, Girlfriends’ Getaway Weekend truly offers something for everyone. Women from across Ontario will flock to Huntsville looking to unwind and escape the pressures of everyday life with great entertainment, adventure, culinary experiences and loads of great shopping.
Girlfriends’ Getaway Weekend continues to be a weekend jam-packed with entertainment. The performances kick off on Friday night as the Algonquin Theatre hosts Hex and the City. This LOL event is fundraiser for the Muskoka Parry Sound Sexual Assault Services that includes a Gala Reception featuring music from Gina Horswood and Tamica Herod, followed by the main event: An evening of comedy with Robin Clipsham as “Peaches” and Cherry Beach accompanied by Second City’s Jillian Welsh!
For women looking for a live music experience, the Festival of the Arts brings you the musical universe of the legend that is Sir Paul as All McCartney Live is at the Algonquin Theatre on Saturday night. Incorporating modern sound, technology, lights and video, the show will lead guests on an emotional and nostalgic journey through 1963 to present day.
Saturday night’s headline concert features none other than Serena Ryder at Deerhurst Resort. Ryder is a Toronto born artist adored by fans and critics alike due to her immense raw and earnest song writing talent and electric live performances.
A popular feature of the Girlfriends’ Getaway Weekend is the Girl Talk speaker series. Hosted at the Algonquin Theatre, these sessions focus on topics such as beauty, health, personal growth, relationships and fashion. The 45-minute workshops take place Saturday from 12 to 2:45 pm, and the diverse range of topics guarantee there will be something that piques everyone’s interest.
For activities that could be considered adventurous or daring, Girlfriends’ Getaway has the perfect solution. Find Your Wild is back in 2018 with new and exciting outdoor adventures designed to provide an escape from the pressures of a busy life by challenging guests to experience nature like never before. Try on a new outfit at the Firefighter Escape Room where women will have the chance to wear full firefighter gear and test themselves through multiple challenges. And if firefighting isn’t the answer, there’s always Axe Throwing. Try either Traditional Axe Throwing or the Bush Poker Axe Throwing Trail, which includes 16 targets on a walk in the woods, with fun new challenges including moving targets.
Throughout the weekend, gal pals will have a chance to get in touch with their inner artist. With workshops such as Woven Pendants, Painting Figures in a Fun New Way, Take the Best Photos with Your iPhone, Carve Your Own Stone Pendant, and Macramé a Wall Hanging, Girlfriends’ Getaway Weekend offers the opportunity to take part in a playful expression of art and music.
Food has always been a highlight of the weekend, and this year’s event is no exception. Turn drab into fab at the Queens of Cuisine event where it’s time for High Tea, as Whimsical Bakery demonstrates the art of decadent scone making. Still hungry? The restaurants are also ready for the Girlfriends’ to arrive.
