The Huntsville Dunkaroos travelled to Kingston yesterday.
They will be competing in the Provincial Special Olympics being held in Kingston. They’ll be there between June 5-8.
On December 12th, students and staff from the Life Skills classes from Huntsville High School travelled to Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School to participate in the regional Special Olympics basketball tournament.
The Huntsville Dunkaroos’ score qualified them to go to the next round at the Provincial Special Olympics being held in Kingston.
Teachers and coaches Sara Taylor and Jeremy Marshall will be joining the players on this trip.
“The Dunkaroos have been practicing on a weekly basis since they received the good news that they qualified in February. Some players have been practicing at school at lunch daily,” noted Taylor.
Special Olympics provides transportation and the Huntsville crew will be staying at Queen’s University campus residences.
Divisional games will be played today, Tuesday, June 6, and round-robin games will be played on Wednesday.
An estimated 7,000 high school athletes from across Ontario will be competing to qualify in five different sports for a spot at the championships: basketball, bocce, floor hockey, track and field, and soccer.
