Huntsville Lions Club benefiting from this ‘novel’ idea

Scotiabank at Huntsville Place Mall has come up with a ‘novel’ idea that re-circulates books while also helping local charities.

The bank has set up a pocket-novel display in the branch where people can chose from a selection of gently read novels to take home in exchange for a donation. For the months of September and October the used book sale is in support of the Huntsville Lions Club.

Huntsville Lions Club member Russ Nicholls loves the simplicity of the fundraiser.

It’s a good fundraiser. I love it. Newer novels draw a really good buck, especially if they are from a good author. We have a lot of good books here.Lion Russ Nicholls

And the best part for the local charities is that Scotiabank matches the funds that are raised from the sale of the books. With Scotiabank’s help, the Lions figure they will raise about $1500 during their September/October stint which they will put back into the community.

“This is one of a number of fundraisers the Huntsville Lions Club has,” said long-time Lion Doug Wilson. “The money that they raise through these goes into community service.”
