If you haven’t already, you may want to add the Huntsville Farmers Market to your list of outdoor activities this summer. The market meets at the Huntsville Fairgrounds every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., until October 7.
New to the market this year are fresh-cut flowers and pork, according to market manager Sherry Leverdingen.
You’ll also find items like baked goods, eggs, cheese, veggies, and fruits as well as honey, different types of preserves, meats, fish, and guest arts and crafts vendors.
“There will be apples again this year and we’ve already had our asparagus season, strawberries are still there with Taylor farms,” said Leverdingen, adding that peaches, blueberries, and raspberries are also coming.
The market is comprised of many local growers as well as producers from all over Ontario.
“We have one rule in our market, and it’s very important. You either make it, bake it, or you grow it. We do not allow resellers to come in,” she noted.
Next year the Huntsville Farmers Market will be celebrating its 35th anniversary. “I’m hoping COVID is over with so that we can celebrate. This has really knocked us back with the COVID,” said Leverdingen. The market, which usually starts in May, had to start in June this year due to COVID-19 restrictions. “We’re ready to get COVID over with and hopefully it’ll be good for next year to celebrate our 35th.”
She said part of the planned celebrations will include putting out picnic tables at the pavilion as well as food, music, activities, and handing out gifts.
