Photo of the Huntsville Curling Club from 1960. (Submitted by Dennis Rolland).
This picture was taken by the Ontario Ministry of Travel and Publicity to promote winter in Huntsville in 1960. The photo shows the inside of the Huntsville Curling Club rink as it once was with a huge “Welcome” banner across the scoreboard ends, the Players Tobacco scoreboards, the benches on the ice, the old brooms, and the 1954-era rocks.
The beautiful wooden timber roof and walls collapsed from snow load and rain in 1972.

George A. Nickerson says
Through my lens, curling has experienced a renaissance in Huntsville over the past few years. For example, the Friday night social league consists of 16 teams. Most teams consist of 6 players. The ‘age mix’ indicates growing interest by new curlers, many of whom are in their 20’s. Everyone appreciates the volunteers who contribute to this growth, especially Valerie Kittner (Friday night Co-ordinator), ice-makers, and of course those who bar tend at the ‘9th End’. Curling is inclusive. It’s a great game which is thriving in Huntsville.
