The public washrooms at River Mill Park, donated by a generous community member, have been closed for more than a month.
According to Huntsville CAO Denise Corry, the extended closure has been a result of difficulty getting a contractor and parts during the holidays.
The washrooms went down in early December as a result of unfortunate vandalism, according to the Town.
“Bottom line is, when the vandalism took place in December, they damaged the electronic doors so bad we needed to get specific parts and a contractor to do the work as it was beyond our staff’s ability to do. Due to the holiday season, as I am sure you can appreciate, it was very difficult to get the parts and a contractor,” explained Corry via written correspondence.
“I trust now that the holidays are over we can move forward on this. We are also looking at options for switching out the doors as it would appear that the electronic doors that came with the unit will not work in our community due to ongoing vandalism… which is very disheartening to say. We will continue to endeavour to keep these washrooms open for our community to the best of our ability. We are also working with the OPP to get cameras installed throughout the park which will hopefully help with future vandalism which, sadly, we all know will continue to happen,” noted Corry.

For all the money we’ve spent and future monies to be spent on this project, it seems the only way to avoid vandalism would be to hire full time security personnel!
Such a waste of tax payers funds
Good luck on it not happening again !!!
Replace them with those rented Johnny on The Spot toilets and give those nice people who paid for them their money back. The vandals will only destroy them again.
I’m wondering if other communities have problems with their public washrooms. We’ve travelled far and wide and public washrooms are always available.
More cameras? Better doors?
The vandals will be caught?
The judge will slap them on the wrist and tell
them to be more careful next time and not to get caught.
Canadian justice system?? Lol.
I thought these were supposed to be vandalism proof.
More money down the toilet?
