If you’re a history buff or simply a Huntsville buff, there may be a recently published book on your horizon.
Tricia Markle with the Huntsville and Area Historical Society was before council on July 22 to introduce a labour of love a committee of the society has been working on since winter.
While the book Huntsville: Pictures From the Past, a compilation of information and historical photos of the area, has been published before, the photos in the new edition have been enhanced and new ones have been added.
“We have corrected some of the text, brought it up to date, and redone all the pictures, plus adding a few other pictures,” said Markle. “And it came as a great surprise to us that Maureen Hunt in her will had left us $10,000 to go ahead with this publication, which had brought it on a lot quicker than we thought. And with great respect to Maureen, she loved Huntsville, she loved heritage, and without her I’m sure the pioneer village would not be what it is today. We dedicate this book to Maureen Hunt.”
Markle said the book was first published in 1985 under the direction of Hunt and a committee from the pioneer village. “It was popular and we published again in the early ’90s but this had not been available since I would say the middle of 1990, and we keep getting asked for copies of this book.”
Thanks to evolving technology the photos are much clearer than they were in other editions. “With the new technology we’re actually seeing some people in the picture that we didn’t even know existed in them,” she said to chuckles from council.
The book will soon be available at Artisans of Muskoka with other possible locations still being worked out. It retails for $25 and 500 new copies were printed.
Markle left a copy with council.
