The Huntsville Theatre Company’s Theatre is my Passion program is ready to present their production of Fantastic Mr. Fox. The show is the final product of the yearly after-school program in which 19 local youth participated.
Program coordinator Mark Rodrigues said that the youth involved have dedicated a lot of time and effort to this show, and learning about the many aspects that go into a theatrical production.
“I believe the audience will be impressed with what the kids have done with the script and the show. They have taken what they’ve learned and applied it to the dark humour and strangeness of this story. There are a lot of strange bits and nuances they had to use their knowledge to bring out, challenging the whole group as they brought this script to the stage,” said Rodrigues.
Based on the book by beloved children’s author Roald Dahl, Fantastic Mr. Fox follows the titular character as he steals from three cruel farmers, Boggis, Bunce and Bean. The farmers constantly try to hunt him down with their guns and mechanical shovels. Mr. Fox and his family decide to make one last major heist for a fantastic feast that will be shared with their wonderful friends such as Mr. Badger, the Rabbits and the Weasels.
The show will run from Friday, June 14 to Sunday, June 16 at Hidden Valley Highlands Ski Area. There are two evening performances at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and two matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets can be purchased online at www.huntsvilletheatre.org or in person at Castle Antiques in downtown Huntsville. This show is fun for the entire family!
“I want people to experience young artists genuinely enjoying themselves onstage and showing their enthusiasm for the performing arts,” said Rodrigues. “Our audiences can learn and feel something special through these fantastic performances from Huntsville’s talented youth.”
