Weather plagued the GBSSA soccer playoffs Thursday and in fact delayed the final game in the Senior series until Monday.
It was brutally cold and the field conditions were wet and snowy as the Huntsville Jr. Hoyas lost to Holy Trinity 9-3. Jack Lockwood had two goals and Kyler Campbell got the other.
“Holy Trinity is known for their soccer and has been undefeated for the last 13 years straight,” commented coach Jennifer Cooper. “In all honesty, we did not have huge expectations, but were hoping to hold our own. We did that, and played fairly well considering the conditions and our opponents.”
It was also the first loss of the whole season for the Jr. Hoyas, who still maintain bragging rights as Muskoka Parry Sound champs.
The Sr. Hoyas defeated Twin Lakes 2-0 in an easy semi-final game on Thursday. That win put them in the GBSSA final against Holy Trinity who had downed Barrie North 10-0. However, when the two teams arrived to play the scheduled final, the referee called the game due to snow accumulation and poor field conditions. The final game has been rescheduled to Monday, October 31.
The Sr. Hoyas are hoping for a return trip to the OFSAA championships.
