Hiring fair for Huntsville’s first ride share service this Tuesday at the Hub

Y Drive is proud to announce a hiring fair Tuesday, September 20th from 10 am to 3 pm at The Hub located at 1 Crescent Road in Huntsville.

We are looking for enthusiastic, social, and hard-working individuals to partner with us as we launch Huntsville’s first Ride Share service. Drivers must be 25 years of age (insurance requirement) and must have a 2013 or newer 4-door vehicle in clean and reliable operation. Potential partners can apply by dropping into the event or by emailing [email protected]

Y Drive was created in 2020 to combat impaired driving and to improve small-town transportation options by Rob Davidson and Erica Young. With the help of their team, Y Drive now has 97 registered drivers, across two cities in both Ontario and Alberta, with plans to launch 3 more locations by year-end. The app works similarly to Uber, clients can use the app to book on-demand, as well as pre-planned rides within the Huntsville area. The rides are then automatically dispatched to drivers on the platform who have been vetted, background checked, and licensed with the city.

“Our goal in each new market is the same, on the one hand, we want to provide casual work to our drivers allowing them to make a supplementary or full-time income at their leisure, while also providing low-cost and reliable transportation to the client,” said company President Rob Davidson. “I grew up in Utterson until my teenage years, Huntsville is a very vehicle-reliant community and we want to help make transportation more affordable, but also easier to access to anyone who finds themselves without a ride”

Y Drive plans to launch shortly after the hiring fair, with ten drivers and a 24/7 schedule.

“It’s been really exciting to grow in Peterborough over the past 18 months,” said Young, who runs Y Drive’s day-to-day operations. “As a mother who works full time, I’ve not only been able to develop our regular service, but I have also had the opportunity to focus on and spearhead our school pickup and drop off system as well”. Y Drive has the ability for parents to pre-book rides for their children and monitor the event from start to finish in real-time, while even providing communication options directly to their driver.

While logged in and working, drivers and their vehicles are automatically covered by Y Drive’s insurance eliminating the need for owner operators to secure additional and expensive coverage that taxis and limos would typically require.

Anyone wanting more information on Y Drive is encouraged to check them out on social media or download the app!

  1. To respond to a few valid concerns above:

    1. When driving rideshare you have a TNC policy provided, this means you are in no way using your own insurance. This is not like delivery drivers where they hope nothing happens, you are fully covered without providing any insurance yourself. I’d sort of expect a mayoral candidate to research rather than assume?

    2. Background checks: our drivers all receive the same vulnerable sector checks in every city we operate with the OPP or out west, rcmp.

    3. Drivers are licensed under the city of Huntsville’s newly reformed transportation bylaw.

This isn’t a new concept, and I realize change can be scary but in our existing markets it’s meant huge savings for our clients and increased earnings for our drivers whether part time or full time.

Have a great evening all, see you shortly 🙂

    Which city?

  3. Bob Braan says:

Subsidized Ubers instead of transit have been extremely popular in the Town of Innisfil.
    “Using Innisfil Transit”

Point to point. No waiting. No transfers. Faster. No parking. Covers any area.
Driverless cars will be even cheaper than transit since no driver.
Already operating in Phoenix and San Francisco by Waymo and GM’s Cruise with big expansion plans.

  4. Brian Dallier says:

This is an absolute disaster for local taxi service providers in Huntsville.
I used to drive for Al’s Taxi.
There is more to driving people around than this place is letting the public know.
Long hours, poor weather conditions, and sometimes bad customers that don’t care about the vehicle they ride in.
Additionally what about the OPP security checks that Taxi Drivers have gone through to be sure that they are safe to be driving.

  5. Kyle DeSoto says:

Umm Reuben, you want to be our mayor? Sir, you can’t even spell. My goodness, please ask the Doppler to remove your comment due to excessive embarrassment.

Y Drive is a good concept till the owner of the vehicle gets into an accident and has their insurance cancelled for their share activities with their vehicle. Y Drive does not tell you that one accident can ruin your insurance for life or your premiums will be so high you can’t afford to drive.
Y drive also does not protect you from your personal vehicle damage or maintenance on your car. Think long and hard about this. Than come see an actual taxi operator and get unsurance with a reputable provider.
