Hidden Valley Racers making the most out of their short season

After many weeks of uncertain weather conditions, ski racers from the Muskoka Ski Club (at Hidden Valley Highlands Ski Area) have finally been able to take to the slopes and kick off their racing season.

On January 17, the U16 team made their way to Alpine Ski Club in Collingwood for a Slalom race while the U12s were at home at Hidden Valley for a kombi race (combination of Slalom and Giant Slalom).

The U12 group had a particularly impressive showing with all 15 of their athletes successfully completing both runs of the race. On the boys’ side, Andy Bulloch finished in third place. The girls saw Julia Caswell, Lucie Cook and Eloise Mackenzie crack the top ten with third, fourth and tenth place finishes respectively. (See full results at bottom).

Only three of the members from the U16 team were able to make the trip to Alpine Ski Club for the Slalom race. The lone boy, Sam Crowder, had a great first run putting him in 13^th, but had a fall on his second run resulting in disqualification. Sydney Stevens and Emily Jason got off to a solid start, completing both runs, finishing 12^th and 22^nd respectively.

This past weekend saw the U12s racing at Mount St. Louis/Moonstone, the U14s at Osler Bluff Ski Club and the U16s at Craigleith Ski Club. All teams were racing Slalom.
