HHS student Ella Dussault places in top 10 at OFSAA competition

In a thrilling showcase of talent and determination, grade 9 student Ella Dussault, from Huntsville High School, made an impressive mark at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Alpine Skiing event held at Osler Bluff Ski Area last month.

Competing against top-notch skiers from across the province, Ella displayed exceptional skills and resilience on the slopes, earning her well-deserved spots in both the giant slalom and slalom events, according to her Coach Saree Sasson.

In the giant slalom, Ella raced her way to an impressive 8th place finish, navigating the challenging course with finesse and speed. “Her performance was nothing short of inspiring, showcasing the result of dedicated training and a passion for alpine skiing,” noted Sasoon.

The excitement continued in the slalom event, where Ella once again demonstrated her prowess on the slopes. Despite unfavourable conditions, and a tricky course, she secured a 9th place finish in the slalom. “Ella exhibited remarkable technical skills, weaving through the gates with precision and confidence, adding advanced technical skills in her cross blocking and edging,” said her coach.

Alpine skiing is one of the only sports where there are no age divisions, meaning Ella competed against all grades. Placing in the top 10 as a grade 9 student is quite an accomplishment. Her achievement serves as a reminder that with passion, dedication, and hard work, local talents can shine on the provincial stage.

“Congratulations, Ella, on your remarkable accomplishments at OFSAA Alpine Skiing, you represented Huntsville High School with so much respect, integrity, and skill,” noted her coach
