Both of the Huntsville High School boys basketball teams are Muskoka Parry Sound (MPS) champions.

The HHS senior team participated in a number of tournaments this season as stepping stones to help them build and practice their basketball skills to get them through the MPS championships to the GBSSA (Georgian Bay Secondary Schools Association) finals which will be held this Friday, February 22 in Simcoe.

The team won the Muskoka Parry Sound Championships on Thursday, February 14, with a 2-1 record. In their first game against Parry Sound, the entire team brought their game to outmaneuver their opponents for the win, 63 -39. Zach Boyko and Matt Stayner earned 14 points apiece.

Game two against Gravenhurst was a nail-biter.

“It was a hard battle. With less than a minute to go, Ethan Tye got a big steal and went ahead to put in the lay-up for the winning basket,” said Coach Kelly Picken. HHS took the win 54-51, with Zach Boyko leading the score board with 26 points.

The Hoyas junior boys basketball team successfully defended their MPS title by defeating Gravenhurst in the finals. It was a rewarding win as Gravenhurst was their first loss at the beginning of the season.

“The juniors have had a good season after a first game loss to Gravenhurst. They improved greatly and have been working well as a team. We are looking forward to the Georgian Bay championship on Friday,” said Coach Terry Barber.
