The Huntsville High School (HHS) swim team had a successful end to their 2018/19 year with six swimmers qualifying for OFSAA to compete amongst the fastest high school swimmers in Ontario.
The event was held at the Scarborough PanAm pool, a world-class facility, on March 5-6.
All of the HHS swimmers did well at OFSAA, with all swimmers putting forth their best effort and achieving 100 per cent best times.
Highlights included the senior girls medley relay team making it to the B finals and taking sixth place, and Kyoka Stone’s performance in the 50M butterfly which earned her a lane in the A finals where she finished seventh overall.
OFSAA Day 1
Maggie Pitts swam in the preliminaries in the Girls 15 & Over 100 SC metre backstroke senior high school with a time of 1:21:44.
Madeleine Arsenault swam in the preliminaries for the Girls 14 & Under 50 SC metre breaststroke junior high school with a time of 41:35.
Alicia McLinden swam in the preliminaries for the Girls 15 & Over 100 SC metre breaststroke senior high school with a time of 1:36:14.
The Girls 15 & Over 200 SC metre medley relay senior high school team—Maggie Pitts, Kyoka Stone, Alicia McLinden and Celeste Dupuis—qualified for the finals with a swim time of 2:25:43, a tie with the Oakville team. In the B finals, the girls team swam a time of 2:26:25.
OFSAA Day 2
Kyoka Stone swam the Girls 15 & Over 100 SC metre IM senior high school with a time of 1:17.06 which qualified her for the B finals. In the B finals, Stone placed fourth with a faster time, 1:17:03, than her preliminary.
Stone also qualified for the A final in the Girls 15 & Over 50 SC metre butterfly senior high school race with a time of 32:57 and placed seventh overall, again with a faster time, 32:51, than her preliminary swim.
For the Girls 15 and Over 200 SC Metre freestyle relay senior high school race, Hayden Phillips, Maggie Pitts, Celeste Dupuis and Alicia McLinden swam with a time of 2:11.40.
Coaches Sarah Phillips and Allison Myers were proud of the team’s effort and the positive attitudes throughout the event. Way to go, Hoyas!
