From October through January, the Huntsville High School (HHS) Interact Club spent their Friday lunches raising money for two local food banks.
The Interact Club is the youth version of the Rotary Club of Huntsville and comprises students from HHS that take on numerous not-for-profit initiatives throughout the school year.
While the majority of the donations came from selling popcorn on Fridays during lunch hour, the club also collected money through other projects.
When HHS held its annual Valentine’s Day Dance, students could donate canned goods as an alternative to paying for their ticket. Interact also sold drinks during this winter’s Caf-Jam to raise money.
Last Thursday, April 26, representatives from both The Table Food Bank and the Salvation Army were invited to HHS to join the Interact Club for a presentation of cheques and canned goods.
“It’s a great feeling knowing that acts of kindness like this will have such a strong impact on the lives of local families in need,” said Impact Club member, Alora Hunnighan.
Each organization received numerous canned goods items as well as a $100 cash donation.

Hats off to Huntsville HIgh School’s Interact Club for the great work they have been doing to help Muskoka’s disadvantaged residents. It’s very reassuring to know that these young people care about their community. I hope their efforts spread.
