Hawks celebrate a stellar season with parade and annual banquet

The Huntsville Hawks minor lacrosse teams celebrated their 2018 season at a banquet at the Active Living Centre on Monday, August 20.

The evening began with a parade through downtown Huntsville for the Moose Delaney’s Midget lacrosse team to recognize their gold-medal win at the provincial championships. The team was all smiles as they proudly wore their medals and hoisted a banner, waving to onlookers and drivers who honked their congratulations.

The president of the Huntsville & District Minor Lacrosse Association, Jason Rudge, gave a warm welcome to all and invited the coaches to speak about their teams and present the awards for the Most Improved, Most Defensive and Most Offensive player on each of their teams.

Then the individual awards were presented. The Jim Merideth Award went to the MVP for the provincial championships, Morgan Aubin Vardy from the Midget Hawks team. The Jimmy Thompson Award for the player who shows the most enjoyment and dedication was awarded to Kaiya Roberson. The Jim Bishop Award recipient, for outstanding contribution to the development of lacrosse, was coach Joe O’Halloran. The Elva Stinson Spirit Award was presented to coach Cory Veitch. The Kirk Evans Award for most inspirational player was awarded to Griffin Andrews. And the President’s Choice Award went to Keri Black.
