Jennifer and Steve Spencer go all out with Halloween decorating

‘Haunters Bay Drive’ family is ready for trick-or-treaters

Steve and Jennifer Spencer have been huge fans of Halloween for as long as they can remember.

Eight years ago they decided to take their love for the holiday to the next level and work year-round to create the most elaborately decorated yard possible.

“We love spreading our madness and wanted to be scary without the fear attached to it,” said Jennifer. “Ever since I was little I always wanted to be the scariest house on the street and have kids remember our decorations year after year.”

Almost every decoration has either been made or altered to fit their display as the Spencers want to add their own creativity to each aspect. Steve takes on the big build aspects and Jennifer does the planning and details of their display.

They create and buy decorations throughout the year and start setting up around the beginning of October, bringing out some last-minute additions on Halloween night.

This year the Spencers had a fair amount of trees cut down on their property so dead tree branches play a large part in their display.

Around 80 trick-or-treaters came to their house when they first started their display, but now up to 300 come to visit Haunters Bay.

The Spencers have so many decorations and creations that they’ve had to build an attic in their house to store everything. Steve joked that while Halloween decor takes up an entire attic, Christmas only takes up one box.

In addition to their display, the Spencers are also members of the Canadian Haunt Society which Steve hopes to be president of one day.

“We’ve always been huge Halloween fans and I have experience as a stage decorator for bands so I really get to play around with this each year,” said Steve.

Some of the couple’s biggest projects to date are their Pumpkin King, a Frankenstein head and even life-sized aliens.

Their house even has its own Facebook page, Haunters Bay Drive, where they post updates and photos of their display leading up to the big night.
