For the first time in over two decades, the Blue Jays have made the MLB postseason.
But of course, you already knew that. For the last two months, Blue Jays fever has officially gripped the nation, as fans old and new have joined together to watch Canada’s team clinch the top of their division and punch their ticket to the playoffs.
Now, just as suddenly as it began, the Jays miraculous run is on the verge of coming to an abrupt halt, after losing their opening two games to the Texas Rangers in the American League Division Series. Heading to Arlington in a do-or-die situation, it’s up to Toronto to win three in a row to extend their season, with the first game coming tonight (October 12) at 8:10 pm. And what better way to enjoy your Thanksgiving long weekend than with the thrill of October baseball and great food, drinks, and company to cheer alongside as the boys in blue look to get back into the 2015 World Series Championship.
Here are the top places to watch the Jays tonight, and throughout postseason, as they attempt to rally against the Rangers. (Note: These rankings are for entertainment purposes only.)
Boston Pizza
Since changing over from The Cottage to a Boston Pizza franchise over the last year, the new ownership group has spent a lot of time and money renovating the layout of their restaurant, and it shows. From the high definition TVs covering every possible viewing angle in every room, to the 16 beers on tap, including a selection of local, craft, and sub-zero (Canadian, Coors Light and Heineken) draughts, Boston Pizza takes the overall top ranking in this list. With a long-standing reputation as a quality sports bar with a wide variety of classic and original food choices, the Huntsville franchise of Boston Pizza has it all, including a lively crowd decked out in Jays colours for every game. The sound system is also top notch, with high quality speakers around the restaurant bringing the play-by-play call right to your table wherever you’re sitting. Oh, and they have a video wall – four giant TV’s mounted in a rectangle that makes the Blue Jays players literally larger-than-life as they crank those home runs.
Moose Delaney’s
A longtime favourite of Huntsville locals, Moose may not have as many TVs or beer choices as BP, but the atmosphere here during sporting events is second to none. The Jays jerseys hanging on the walls (one of several prizes available to be won through various beer promotions) are proof that General Manager Dan Barkwell, a long time supporter of local sports in Huntsville, knows how to cater to the fans when it comes to playoffs. Add in the fantastic daily food and drink specials – including the best wings in town, just 59 cents on Wednesday nights – and the Moose is a solid bet as the number two overall selection to watch the Jays’ comeback. Plus, with two pool tables just off the bar, patrons are able to play a game while watching the game, and are never more than a few steps away from a refreshing pint.
Chuck’s Roadhouse
A selection that may raise a few eyebrows, Chuck’s Roadhouse makes this list by offering incredible value for fans looking for the most bang for their buck. The only place in town to get a steak dinner and a couple of pints for less than $30 (tax and tip included), Chuck’s also offers $3 bar rail drinks all day, every day. The numerous TVs (9 in total, with the majority in the bar area) ensure that fans don’t miss a moment of the action, while bar manager Kurtis Clarke keeps the sound cranked for a great “ballgame” experience. Remember to bring your jersey to join the sea of blue anxiously watching the action at the large bar and dining area.
Of course, there are a number of other great options in town, as Kelsey’s (biggest bar seating), East Side Mario’s (family value and unlimited salad/bread) and the Mill on Main (mouth watering food and fantastic staff) all deserve honourable mentions. Win or lose, this has been a season to be proud of as a Jays fan, and watching the game together is always more fun. Also, wherever you end up going tonight, please remember to drink responsibly.
