The Township of Muskoka Lakes’ Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Derrick Hammond, announced that he will be retiring this summer.
Hammond is a familiar face in Muskoka having spent thirty-four years in municipal government, including time at the District Municipality of Muskoka, the Township of Lake of Bays as well as the Town of Huntsville before culminating his career at the Township of Muskoka Lakes.
“CAO Hammond has shown exemplary leadership amongst both staff and Council while in his role,” said Muskoka Lakes Mayor Peter Kelley. “During his tenure in Muskoka Lakes, he has consistently spoken truth to power, and helped to build a strong foundation that will guide future decisions for years to come.”
“I want to thank Council for its leadership as well as its support for Township staff, who exemplify professionalism, resilience and dedication to public service every day,” said Hammond. “I know Muskoka Lakes will continue to be well served going forward.”
While in his role in Muskoka Lakes, CAO Hammond enshrined strategic thinking and continuous improvement in the way the Township conducts its business. According to staff and council, under CAO Hammond’s leadership over the past 5 years, a strong foundation has been built to enable council to achieve its objective of modernizing the corporation.
Over the coming months, Mayor Kelley will work with council and human resources to begin recruitment for the Township’s next CAO.
