The 28th annual Great Pumpkin Trail is coming soon at Muskoka Heritage Place.
“It’s a great event for families, especially with younger kids,” says Muskoka Heritage Place manager Ron Gostlin, who hand carves 40 jack-o-lanterns to line the pathways for the event. “It’s traffic-free, kids can run around and have fun without getting lost, and parents can socialize at the same time.” There are prizes for families who all come in costume and it’s become an annual tradition for many.
Each of the Pioneer Village’s buildings is decorated by a sponsoring business who will be doling out goodies for trick-or-treaters. This year, MHP staff and volunteers will be decorating Day of the Dead, Monster High and fortune telling-themed houses, Santa will be taking a break from Christmas preparations to team up with the Tooth Fairy, and sponsors Huntsville Public Library, the Nutty Chocolatier, Falls Law Group, Moose FM, RE/MAX, Wild Wheelin’ Muskoka, Kelsey’s, the Huntsville Forester, and Gerry Lantaigne will be vying for the best decorated building as judged by Mayor Scott Aitchison.
- Wild Wheelin’ Muskoka was the 2015 winner of the best decorated house contest
- Santa is always a popular sight for young trick-or-treaters
- Spooky decorations are all in fun in the Pioneer Village
- MHP manager Ron Gostlin hand carves 40 jack-o-lanterns for the event
- Some houses are spooky, some are silly…
- …and some look good enough to eat!
Admission to the Great Pumpkin Trail is $3 per head – head must be attached to a body – or $10 per family. As cute as they might be in costume, no pets are allowed – registered service animals only. The event runs from 5-8pm on October 31 with last admission at 7:30pm.
