Good news – Huntsville receives increased amount from gas tax fund

The Town of Huntsville will receive $146,000 from the Province this year from their gas tax fund. That is up from the $106,000 they received last year.

The Province shares the gas tax fund with the 95 municipalities in Ontario that have a public transit system in place. Huntsville is the only municipality in Muskoka with public transit.

According the media release, Ontario shares two cents per litre of provincial gas tax revenues with municipalities to expand and improve public transit.

The increase in funding is good news for Huntsville. According to Deputy mayor Karin Terziano, the amount received doesn’t fully cover the cost of transit program but it helps reduce the burden on taxpayers.
