Deerhurst Resort’s Lakeside golf course was awash in pink on June 15 as the 12th annual Golf Fore the Girls tournament teed off in support of the Huntsville Hospital Foundation.

At last year’s event, Deerhurst unveiled two pink golf carts and committed to donating a portion of their rental fees to the cause. Before the ladies headed out on the course, Deerhurst’s head pro Ryan Barry said that the resort would be donating $845 to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation from those rentals.

“I’ve been playing golf for a lot of years and I never knew it could be this fun,” said Mayor Scott Aitchison. “It’s clear that the girls always have more fun than the boys.”

The teams, many decked out in fabulous costumes and decorated carts with signs like ‘Tutus for Tatas’, ‘We Give a Hoot, Give Cancer the Boot’, and ‘Save the Boob-Bees’, played an 18-hole scramble before heading inside for a delicious lunch and awards.

Dana Murdy, owner of Huntsville’s Shoppers Drug Mart, the event’s lead sponsor, said “We are committed to the health of all but women’s health takes a front seat in our focus, whether it be breast cancer or mental health. In the last 12 months alone, we have given over $35,000 to local women’s health initiatives like Golf Fore the Girls, Community Living and the Huntsville Hospital Foundation.”
Dana Murdy and Shoppers Drug Mart have extended their partnership with Golf Fore the Girls for another two years.

A tradition of the Golf Fore the Girls tournament is to recognize the woman in the group who has had the most recent mammogram. This year Suzanne Cork-Birk took home this lovely purse for her very recent June mammogram.
Rose Evans was the lucky winner of this Ping putter, supplied by Hunt House and inset with a one-carat diamond. Rose says she plans to have it made into a necklace.
