It’s Wayback Wednesday, sponsored by Jamie Lockwood, broker/owner of Sutton Group Muskoka Realty!

Dr. N.E. Hunt took this photo between 1980 and 1990 while it was still the iconic Flotron’s Huntsville Trading Company. It later (we’re not sure of the exact date) became Flotron’s Tweed & Hickory, a women’s clothing store. Flotron’s Tweed & Hickory announced their closure in 2014. Today, the space sits empty. Did you ever shop there? What do you think could successfully go into that space?

Tricia, I concur (as we’ve discussed). Flotrons was an anomaly. It was unique. It was special.

I too, was a customer and at one time, an employee of Flotrons. We started shopping at Flotrons when our firstborn was a toddler; that was many years ago. I remember the children’s department; I think it was in the basement. Perusing the gift section, yarns, women’s clothing, men’s clothing, linens, and housewares was a little slice of Heaven!
Every employee knew my name (even prior to my summer employment) and, I knew their names. The atmosphere was friendly. Oh, and you could put an item or two on layaway. They would even hold the item for you for several days if you didn’t want to purchase it that day or use the layaway plan.

If it is even possible to recreate “the past glory of Flotrons” be assured – I will welcome it support it.

As an employee at Flotrons for many years. I can only say there was never and probably will never be another store quite like it

From the great range of stock, the importance of customer service and the wonderful customers who became friends it was a joy to work there as well as being a customer.
I am constantly told by people how much the store is missed. It is so sad to see our “Log Front” store empty.
If there is someone, or group with the foresight to recreate the past glory of Flotrons they will surely be welcomed and supported.
