Flood Watch in effect for Huntsville

Flood Watch in effect for Huntsville

On April 6 the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) issued a Watershed Conditions Statement – Flood Watch for the District of Muskoka.

The Town of Huntsville is advising residents that water levels have increased significantly. River flows in certain areas may rise to flood thresholds with increased runoff.

Huntsville has seen significant rainfall during the past 24 hours. The Town of Huntsville crews along with other Emergency Services have been working quickly to restore services and make roads safe.

Over the next week, warmer temperatures and large amounts of spring runoff will pass through the water system. High water levels and localized flooding in flood prone areas may occur and property owners should take the necessary precautions to protect and secure their property.

The Town of Huntsville and MNRF Officials will continue to monitor conditions daily and provide updates as required. Residents are encouraged to monitor local media outlets, the MNRF and the Town of Huntsville website for updates.

The Town continues to remind residents to stay clear of spring ice (no ice is safe ice) and waterways. Parents and guardians are also advised to remind children to stay clear of open waters, creeks, and rivers.
