Members of the Bracebridge Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an inmate in relation to a death investigation at a correctional facility in Gravenhurst.
On December 18, 2022, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Bracebridge OPP officers responded to a report that an inmate suffered significant injuries at the Beaver Creek Correctional Facility in Gravenhurst. Leslie MA, 31 years of age, of Alberta, was pronounced deceased at hospital.
As a result of the investigation, Devon SAUNDERS, 54 years of age, has been charged with First Degree Murder contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada (CC) sec. 235(1). He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge today.
The Muskoka Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with the assistance of the OPP Forensic Identification Services and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
