Enliven better able to support those living with cancer after donation of new computer

Two years ago, Allie Chisholm-Smith, instructor and owner of Ahimsa yoga studio, and Joanne McLean, co-owner of Soapstones, created the Enliven Centre for Self Care to help ensure that no one living with cancer feels alone.

In January, the organization opened an office above Ahimsa on Main Street to provide face-to-face support for people who have cancer and their caregivers, cancer survivors, and those grieving loved ones who have died from the disease. The office is open on Thursdays from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. and on Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

They receive most of their funding through grants and donations, and offer many of their programs for free. So when it comes time to spend money on the things they need, it does so carefully. And when they went in search of a computer for their new office, they were delighted that Jim Brendish of Brendish computers stepped up to donate one.

It will allow them to better assist people in the community who need their services, and ensure the community at large is better informed about what help is available.

“Response time has been much better,” says Chisholm-Smith. “It makes us way more able to meet people’s needs.”

“We have the office space and now we have the equipment to go along with it to get out into our community,” says Catherine Prosser, the smiling face that people will see when they come to the office, adding that tasks like applying for grants had been made difficult by the lack of a dedicated computer for the organization.

Brendish says he was happy to help out. “It’s a really good cause. They do a lot of great things for our community. This type of care is needed in our small community for sure.”
