The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews are actively working to clear snow on closed secondary roads off Highway 11 and are preparing for more snowfall in the Town of Huntsville.
There are currently nine tractor trailers that remain stuck on secondary roads, which is causing a delay in snow removal and hydro restoration efforts. Houseys Rapids Road, Uffington Road, Southwood Road, Beiers Road, and the northbound ramp at Luigi Road remain closed.
Although Highway 11 has reopened, the OPP reminds the public to slow down, stay alert and stay in control.
Please be aware that the Huntsville area is expected to receive a significant snowfall between this evening, December 3, 2024, and December 6, 2024. The OPP is urging the public to avoid non-essential travel during this time.
The OPP reminds motorists to ensure they are prepared for any situation by driving appropriately for the road and weather conditions. Remember to have an emergency kit in your vehicle, ensure sufficient fuel/battery level with reserve, and plan ahead by monitoring local media reports for road conditions and weather updates.
Motorists who find themselves stranded on roads are encouraged to remain calm, stay in their vehicle and consider pooling vehicle resources until the OPP and other rescuers are able to reach their location.
If you are in a life-threatening situation, call 9-1-1. Please call the OPP non-emergency number, 1-888-310-1122 for all other matters.
