March Break in Muskoka
With the weather this week, it certainly feels as though Spring is on its way. No doubt we will be back to complaining about the cold and the snow in no time though, and with any luck, there will still be lots of it when March break rolls around next month in Muskoka. March break is a great time to have some local adventures and typically a great time of year here with the sun showing its strength and the days getting longer.
Looking for things to do in and around Huntsville to keep the gang happy? Lots of what there is to do will depend on the weather but if there’s still some winter left, consider trying some of the following:
Skiing at Hidden Valley, day or night or both! There are kids camps being offered or just go out as a family and make some turns and some memories.
Head to Arrowhead Park for some tubing, cross country skiing, skating or snowshoeing
Rent a ‘fat bike’ and get your biking legs ready for summer with a winter peddle
Try ice fishing – spring days can be the perfect time to get out on the ice and get some fishing action in the sun
Make your way out to Algonquin Park. Admission to Canada’s National Parks is free for 2017 with a Discovery Pass and many trails can be accessed to go for a ski or snowshoe. Or check out the Logging Museum or Visitor’s Centre and learn about the Park’s history.
Have a bonfire and roast some hot dogs and marshmallows. Low cost and high on the fun list for kids of all ages.
If the weather is just right, with warm days and cold nights, the sap will begin to flow and the sugar shacks like Sugarbush Hill Maple Farm will open and start their annual sap boiling, snow taffy sampling, amazing local maple syrup making.
If getting outside is unlikely due to the weather or you’re just looking for some indoor alternatives, there is still lots to do:
Skating and/or swimming or both at the Huntsville’s Canada Summit Centre, with plenty of times being offered over the week. March Break day camp is also being offered here.
March Break Theatre Camp is being offered for kids 8-12 at the Algonquin Theatre for a week of creativity and drama.
Check out the shows being hosted at Deerhurst this March break, great for the younger kids, or slide by the Capitol Theatre in Huntsville or the Norwood Theatre in Bracebridge for a March break matinee.
Check out the activities on offer at the local libraries, with offerings often including story time and arts and crafts activities.
March break is a welcomed time of year for kids and parents – it’s a great time to enjoy what is left of winter while knowing Spring is on the horizon, which puts a spring in our steps. Sleep in, dine out, get some exercise, chill by the fire…all things that are better in Muskoka any time of year. Stay local or come on up and enjoy this amazing area in all its late winter glory this March break.
