Edmonds GM Lends Eight Vehicles to Championship Cause

The athletes and officials of the 2015 U18 National Women’s Hockey Championship will be riding in style thanks to Edmonds GM in Huntsville.
The dealership has graciously lent eight vehicles to be used from October 28 until November 10 according to the Chair of the Host Organizing Committee, Wendy McConnell. General Motors has long been a supporter of Hockey Canada and its athletes, and the vehicles came as part of their corporate sponsorship package of the 2015 U18 Championship.
“The fleet will primarily be used to transport athletes, referees and team officials during their stay in Huntsville,” said McConnell, who is expecting a full house when the tournament begins next week.

With so many personnel flying in from across the country, the vehicles will get a good highway test-drive, travelling between Pearson International Airport and Deerhurst Resort where the athletes and officials are staying. The SUVs will also be used in town to shuttle people to the Summit Centre arena and the various schools and retirement homes that the teams are scheduled to visit.

With the tournament itself beginning next Wednesday, November 4, there are still spots available for individuals interested in volunteering and participating in a Hockey Canada event at a national level.

“We have a good nucleus of people, and Huntsville never has a problem getting volunteers, but there are a few holes left that we have to fill,” said McConnell. “We will also be providing volunteer swag for those who want to get involved. It can be anything from doing laundry to parking cars, working security, taking tickets.”

Individual tickets will go on sale one week before the scheduled game, and will be $10 for preliminary group games (November 4-6), $15 for the semifinals (November 7), and $20 for the gold and bronze medal games. Ticket packages are still available with the full tournament package costing $50 and including entry to all 18 games, working out to less than $3 per ticket.
