Did you know you can get a ticket for excessive noise or smoke as a result of a modified exhaust?

There’s not a lot to say about taste. Some like their vehicles loud, in fact, the louder the better, while the rest of us just roll our eyes and hear them roar by.

It’s fine when it’s a one-off, but when you have to contend with that one annoying neighbour who likes to roar up and down the road at all hours of the night, well, then it’s fair game.

As cool as you think modifying the exhaust on your vehicle might be, did you know that excessive noise or smoke resulting from a modified exhaust is illegal? Who knew someone could actually get a ticket?

From the OPP Highway Safety Division on Twitter: Modified exhaust? Excessive noise can result in a ticket.

There are much quieter versions of all vehicles.
    Cars, motorcycle, boats, snowmobiles etc.
It should be mandatory they are all quiet to begin with and stay that way with no modification.

Agree with all of the above !!! HELP !!! I live near King William Road and some nights if windows are open you can hardly hear the TV !!!

  3. Kyle DeSoto says:

Time for a centralized Muskoka Region police force, fire the OPP. Send the brown shirts back to Orillia, let’s have community based policing.

This article is almost hilarious if it wasn’t so pathetic. Twice, we have given an O.P.P. officer the license plate of two white Volkswagons that race around downtown. I’m sure neither vehicle has a muffler! Just the other day, we saw an officer walking the River Mill Park and told him about these two vehicles and offered to give him the license plates….again! His response? “Just give us a call when they’re in the neighborhood”.

I highly agree a blitz on loud vehicles is needed. And this should be highly included in seat belt and substance abuse checks.
It’s high time we crack down on loud exhaust systems on all vehicles.
Manufacturer’s should also be made to not have loud exhaust systems on all new vehicles.

There’s no traffic violation enforcement in Huntsville cars parked in live lanes, kids swearing at seniors, and the worse one the diesel pickups pouring black smoke everywhere, where’s the police at the station or trying to be detectives. But they have everything under control.

  7. Tom Spivak says:

If you are sitting at a sidewalk cafe in summer these man child’s in big loud pickups roar their engines as they go by as if it is impressing people, not me.
I enjoy the new streetscape and park but there is no need for this. Hopefully our next mayor and counselor’s will ask the OPP to start getting serious about enforcement.
Good grief guys you aren’t 15 years old anymore!

  8. Robert Graziano says:

Well, I thought I was only one in town who noticed these noise makers.I swear every night on King William there is a contest to see who can make the most noise with these idiot cars.I know the Police have a lot more serious things in Huntsville but maybe a one week blitz of ticketing these jerks will help.

  9. Tom Spivak says:

Not in Huntsville you won’t, OPP too pre-occupied with other things.
Not that they are of no importance but just the same excessive noise, smoke, ATV s are not on their radar.
