1960 Huntsville Curling Club Royalty – Mayors, Presidents & Executives.
Submitted by Dennis Rolland, Huntsville Curling Club
It has been said that the Curling Club is part of the DNA of Huntsville dating back to 1900. In this 1960 photo, all five curlers were executives or presidents of the
Huntsville Curling Club and two of them were also mayors. Pictured from left, former Mayors Art Hutcheson and Frank Hubbel, along with Mardi McDonald, Jim Lumby, and Wilf Beelby. Art Hutcheson was the Mayor of Huntsville from 1941 to 1943. Art was club executive throughout the 1940s and was instrumental, along with former Mayor and Club President Don Lough, in the purchase and conversion of the Department of Northern Development building into the curling club on that site today.
Frank Hubbel, an executive of the 1940s Huntsville Curling Club Board of Directors, was the Mayor of Huntsville from 1959 to 1960. Mardi McDonald was the President of the Huntsville Ladies Curling Club from 1959 to 1962. Jim Lumby, a long-time club executive, was the Men’s President from 1956 to 1958. Wilf Beelby was the club’s Ontario Curling Association rep and was Club President from 1958 to 1960.
