Don’t let the name fool you. Culture Days, which is taking place across the country this weekend, is a lot of fun.
Culture Days is an annual national celebration of arts and culture. It brought Huntsville and surrounding area to life from September 27-29 with a variety of demonstrations and activities. Visitors learned about the works of various artists and watched them at work at their craft. You could also attend an open house for the AO Charity Paddle Art Auction, go on a photography walk, find out about your family history, learn to spin yarn, enjoy music on the street, learn about Muskoka’s endangered turtle population, and much, much more. There were 33 individual events in the area to experience. Here is just a sampling of what went on.

Don Mackenzie has been carving for 28 years and is a master at what he does.

Karolyn Burkhart-Schultz and Llynnis Royea of the Trillium Handspinners & Weavers were on the street demonstrating and giving people an opportunity to try their hand at spinning and weaving. If you would like to learn more about spinning and weaving the group meets regularly. See their Facebook page for more information.
- Corrine Murdy was set up in front of Muskoka Jewellery Design showing her unique way of painting in Acrylics.
- Carol Ferris enjoys doing collage in general, and especially making up little fantasy creatures.
.

Maddie Kellet from S.T.A.R.T. (Saving Turtles At Risk Today) brought a Snapping Turtle, and four other turtle species native to the Muskoka area with her to Culture Days. The START project works to help turtles in the Simcoe/Muskoka/Parry Sound area. If you see a rare, nesting, injured or dead turtle please call or text their hotline, 705-955-4284.
