Coldest Night of the Year returns Feb. 22

The Coldest Night of the Year is a two or five-kilometre walk to raise funds for the Table Soup Kitchen Foundation in Huntsville.

The Table helps vulnerable children, individuals, and families in our community through its food bank, soup kitchen, and exchange store without questions asked, explained founding executive director Heather Cassie.

The walk will begin and end at 9 Hanes Street in Huntsville. Participants are asked to gather at 4 p.m., with opening ceremonies beginning at 4:45 p.m. and the walk beginning at 5 p.m. After the walk, participants will be treated to soup, buns, and dessert.

The goal this year is to raise $100,000. Cassie said they’ve raised about 42 per cent of that goal to date. “So we’re super grateful to our 75 walkers so far and 18 teams that have been fundraising. There’s still lots of time for people to sign up at CNOY.org,” she noted.

Participants can register, donate or volunteer. Those fundraising and walking can form their own team, join an existing team, or one of three Table teams: The Table Setters, Ice Fishers, or Warrior Babes.

Cassie said it takes 10 minutes to sign up, and the site is very user-friendly. She said you sign up and the site enables participants to send out ‘sponsor me’ emails to anyone, anywhere, and donors are immediately provided a tax receipt.

“If you’re able to join us on February 22 to walk, that would be fantastic,” said Cassie, adding that if someone is away on that day and they’d like to participate, they can also do the walk on their own time and place.
