Check out what’s happening this summer in Huntsville

The Town of Huntsville has released its new edition of the digital Art, Culture & Recreation Guide. Online and in-person registration opens on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. or June 17, 2024, at 8:30 a.m. for programs offered by the Huntsville Public Library.  You can also drop in to many programs offered throughout the season.

Summer Event Highlights

The Huntsville Festival of the Arts has a diverse array of performances and events planned at the Algonquin Theatre and beyond. There is also a full lineup of shows at the Theatre by other partners and producers, including Big Friendly Giant from June 14-16 by the Huntsville Theatre Company, the Paddling Film Festival on June 18, Living On Muskoka Time: a multimedia concert featuring Sean Cotton and the New Locals Band on July 11, and stand-up comedian Jeff Leeson on August 24.  Concerts on the Dock, hosted by the Algonquin Theatre and supported by Lake of Bays Brewing Co., is back again this summer on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in July and August; this is a by-donation, open-air concert, with proceeds going to support the performers directly.

As the weather gets warmer, the Town wants to help you and your family get out on your bikes. The Kids Bike Rodeo on June 6 at the Canada Summit Centre is a fun and educational clinic for kids aged 4-9. Travel the neighbourhoods of Huntsville on the Mayor’s Bike Ride, held on June 13, starting at River Mill Park.

June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day and activities are shaping up at Muskoka Heritage Place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and River Mill Park (rain location is Algonquin Theatre) from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The day will feature Indigenous-led teachings, music, vendors, and entertainment at both locations.

The Muskoka Heritage Place is now open for the season, so plan your summer to include the picturesque pioneer village, farm animals, Steam Museum, and open-air train. On June 16, all fathers with paid admission ride for free on our Father’s Day Train. Sign up for one of our period crafts within our Heritage Workshop Series, including printmaking, cyanotypes, and blacksmithing.

The municipality also invites the community to celebrate Canada Day on Monday, July 1, with a Strawberry Social and Steam Up Day. Admission to the museum and pioneer village is free. It is also the first day for the Steam Train (with admission). Round out the day with afternoon and evening music and activities in Kent Park and River Mill Park, and an evening fireworks display over Hunters Bay.
