From the Township of Lake of Bays
The Township of Lake of Bays invites residents and visitors to join in celebrating Heritage Week from February 17 to 23 by exploring the rich history of Lake of Bays.
At the heart of the Township’s efforts to keep local history alive is the Heritage Advisory Committee, a team of seven members dedicated to preserving and maintaining the Township’s built and natural heritage features.
Their accomplishments include:
- Designation of 13 historically significant properties, preserving original features for future generations.
- Creation of an interactive web map, bringing these important sites and their stories to life.
- Unveiling of plaques: 2 provincial, 3 municipal, and restoration of the historic Robertson Family plaque.
- Collection of historical artifacts, including books, CDs, photos, and paintings, some of which are on display at the Municipal Office in Dwight.
- Development of six self-guided walking tours with brochures to encourage exploration.
Whether you’re a history enthusiast or just curious to learn more about the stories that shaped Lake of Bays, there’s something for everyone. For more information, visit Lakeofbays.on.ca/Heritage.
