The manufacturer formerly known as Canusa-CPS has new ownership and an exciting new future!
Before the sale, which took place on December 23, 2020, Canusa-CPS was part of the pipeline performance products business under its parent company Shawcor. Shawcor has since sold its pipeline performance product segment to Arsenal Capital Partners, a private equity firm out of New York, under its coatings platform, Seal For Life Industries.
Plant manager Matt Cook said the manufacturer has rebounded strongly to pre-COVID levels.
“Within Shawcor, we were a small business unit, but with Seal For Life, we are one of the largest brands in the portfolio. We now have sister sites that have similar processes to our own. This allows us to leverage the strengths of each other, which can include how we process products, strengthen our supply and distribution channels, among others,” he wrote in an email to Doppler.
“The Canusa-CPS products remain intact and will continue to be manufactured and supplied globally from the Huntsville location,” said Cook. “We were a leader in our industry before acquisition and we will continue to be as we move forward.”

Seal For Life Canusa history
The journey started in 1966 when Les Shaw saw opportunity to supply the Canadian and American markets with joint coating solutions for the pipeline sector. With incentives for manufacturing in Muskoka, coupled with his love for the region, Huntsville was chosen as his preferred manufacturing location at 455 West Airport Road. This is when the Canusa brand was established under the parent company Shawcor.
During the first 25 years of existence, Canusa served primarily the Canadian and American markets, hence the name Canusa (CAN and USA).
In the 1990s there was major expansion into the international markets and today 80 per cent of their products and services serve international projects.
According to Cook, the Huntsville manufacturer has more than 125 employees involved in both production and office activities. “Safety of our team members is our number one priority, followed by exceeding our customers’ expectations.” He said the future of Seal For Life Canusa is bright.
