Cann Lake culprit identified

Spring flooding may have abated everywhere else in Huntsville, but Cann Lake has decided not to go with the flow. Or rather some pesky rodents have made it so.

If you’ve been by the lake, which is adjacent to Muskoka Heritage Place, you’ll have noticed that water has breached its banks and stubbornly remains there.

Jason Krynicki, Executive Director of Infrastructure with the Town of Huntsville, confirmed that beavers are to blame. One or more of the industrious creatures have plugged the culvert that runs beneath Park Drive and the Muskoka Heritage Place parking lot. Because the blockage is well within the culvert, a backhoe and long pole – a hydro pole, perhaps – will be used to try to punch through the debris and return the lake to normal levels.

The culvert is slated for replacement in October after the high season at Muskoka Heritage Place has passed, added Krynicki.

Them pesky Beavers! They were here first you know.

If my high school memories serve me correctly this creek not only has the culvert at the road to the village and the connection of the summit centre to Brunel road but also a culvert that runs the entire length of the parking lot between the school and the summit centre. This could be quite a replacement job!
