Canada Day long weekend literally starts with a bang

A storm that ripped through Muskoka early Saturday morning downed trees and knocked out power to thousands of customers.

Stan Muntz, who has lived on Fowler’s Road for 20 years, wonders if a tornado may have touched down in his area.

“I was standing in the window watching the storm and all of a sudden I heard a thump and this one tree just missed my car by about two feet,” Stan said as he watched a tree removal crew clean up the mess on his driveway.

Stan lost a number of mature and healthy scotch pines and poplar trees on his property.
