Auditions to participate in The Huntsville Theatre Company’s ‘THEATRE IS MY PASSION’ program will be held at the Studio Theatre in Chaffey Hall on Monday, January 18 at 5:30. (Doors to the studio theatre will open at 5:00 as auditions will start immediately at 5:30.)
The program will run on Mondays from 5:15 – 6:30 starting February 8 with music rehearsals on Wednesdays from 6 – 7:30. The theatre company has teamed up with The Muskoka Music Centre, specifically Frank Berg, to produce the musical Pollyanna. There are 18 – 21 roles to be cast with singing and non-singing roles for children and teens ages 8 – 17. Although the participants will not be required to be at every musical rehearsal on Wednesdays, they will need to be at every Monday rehearsal. After the Victoria Day Weekend, all participants will be required on both Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00 – 7:00 pm
For the audition, please come prepared with a 30 second to 1 minute long memorized monologue of your choice and a short song or tune that shows off your vocal range. Even if you do not want a singing role, we just want to hear you!
“This is our 4th year to offer this free program and it is due to the generous support of our sponsors and the families who fill each performance with family and friends,” said producer Jan Jacklin. “Under the direction of Lauren Saunders and musical director Frank Berg, this is an incredible opportunity for children and teens to learn the craft of acting and receive musical instruction from one of Muskoka’s top vocal coaches.mWe continue to look for more sponsors for this program but are confident that by the time we start in February we will have found our remaining five.”
Hugely successful, this is not a program you can ‘buy into’. The audition process allows the directors and producers to chose those children/teens who display a true passion for the stage no matter their experience or training. “It is very evident at any audition to see those auditioning who demonstrate a love for the stage. Their preparation for the audition is a true indicator of someone who puts the time and effort into wanting to be part of this program,” said Jacklin. “Last year we had an overwhelming turn out for this program and we anticipate an even bigger turn out as word gets out.”
The musical Pollyanna will be performed on June 18 and 19 at 2:00 pm, June 24 at 7:00 pm, and June 25 and 26 at 2:00 pm (5 performances in total). Full details for this program can be found on the theatre company’s website at http://www.huntsvilletheatre.org/auditions.html.
