Bracebridge purchases property for potential new hospital

From the Town of Bracebridge:

Town of Bracebridge Council has approved the land acquisition of 300 Pine Street from Fowler Construction Limited for $1.3 million.

The land at 300 Pine Street is one of the locations identified by Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) as a potential site for the new hospital in Bracebridge. The Town is committed to supporting the MAHC Capital Redevelopment project, including advocacy to provincial officials, participation in Bracebridge site selection and participation on MAHC’s Local Share Working Group.

“The Town of Bracebridge is committed to strengthening our community,” says Mayor Rick Maloney. “The purchase of 300 Pine Street advances our commitment to supporting the health and wellness of the community, Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare’s capital redevelopment project, and contributes to the resources that will support our future.”

The Town is committed to ensuring financial sustainability, and the property’s valuation represents a good opportunity for the Town to expand its assets while being fiscally responsible. A thorough review of the property was undertaken to confirm viability, including an environmental assessment and survey work during an initial due diligence period. If 300 Pine Street is not selected by MAHC, it still holds significant value to Bracebridge, advancing the Town’s priorities of shaping the future of the community and encouraging long-term economic development and growth.

The funds allocated for the purchase of this property will be supported by reserves and is included in the Non-Program section of the 2023 municipal budget and business plan.

While this site may seem a reasonable location, there is no access easy to hwy 11 nor a larger concern would be this site does not allow easy access from over 20,000 other residents from Gravenhurst or Muskoka Lakes such as the current Preferred site selection of the hospital.
The hwy 118 interchange also offers very quick access to the Airport.
Let’s be fair to all the communities who may be in need of this very valuable healthcare facility and the many other businesses whom may locate near it. The land designated as preferred makes the MOST sense! For today and for many many years to come.
    Let’s keep politics OUT please!
    Thank you

    Hi Brian,
    Thank you for your comment.
That is as big as the map goes on the page. You should be able to zoom into it from your computer, usually by clicking on the word ‘zoom’ in the menu typically located at the top right of your screen, where the three dots are.
You can also open the Pdf and follow the presentation until you get to the map here: https://muskoka.civicweb.net/filepro/documents/40041/?preview=40160

Any easy way to adjust size and area of map, like on Google maps, so that one can actually gain enough information to know what is going on?
Perhaps, include a link to Google maps or something?
As is the case with planning data in general, print or internet, the maps are a legal requirement I suppose but they are definitely not a user friendly source of valuable information.
Maybe that is as the involved entities desire??

The Pine Street location seems a good one, to me.

    In town.

    Close to the highway.
