One thing you won’t have to search for in this fundraiser is the fun.
The BIA and Big Brothers Big Sisters have partnered for a family-friendly scavenger hunt, being held Sept. 13-17 in downtown Huntsville, that both supports a great cause and offers the chance to win prizes.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Muskoka provides children and youth who are facing adversities with high-quality, volunteer-based mentoring services. Each ‘Little’ is paired with a ‘Big’, an adult mentor who provides friendship, helps them try new things, and acts as an additional support in their life.
Every dollar raised from BBBS fundraising initiatives supports volunteer recruitment, training, matching, and ongoing support for both the Big and the Little.
“This is a low-cost way to entertain your children without having to go inside!” said Chrissy King, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Muskoka. “Through this fundraiser, you also have the opportunity to support a great cause and ensure that every child in Muskoka who needs a mentor, can have a mentor.”
The cost to participate in the scavenger hunt is $10 per person or $25 for a team of four people.
“The BIA were actually planning a scavenger hunt this fall that would bring people downtown so when Chrissy mentioned she wanted to do this fundraiser it was perfect timing,” said Morgan Richter, manager of the Downtown Huntsville BIA. “We chose September because it starts to get a little less busy and we wanted to encourage our locals to participate. We are thrilled to assist Chrissy and donate a prize that will also help both her project and the downtown merchants as well.”
On September 13, participants will receive clues through a private Facebook Page, or via email for those who don’t use Facebook. The daily clues lead to a medallion hidden somewhere in the downtown core. Participating downtown businesses have additional clues.

“Chrissy was reading me some clues and she is seriously so creative,” added Richter. “It’s gonna be really fun. She has worked really hard on this and is very focused on her mission with Big Brothers Big Sisters.”
The first person or team to find the engraved medallion, which they also take home as a keepsake, wins a prize pack that includes a $500 Algonquin Outfitters gift certificate, $100 in Downtown Dollars, and a Muskoka Bike Shop gift card and water bottle.
“We’ve been relying heavily on fully virtual fundraisers since the onset of the pandemic so this is our first step to introducing in-person events once again,” said King. “This fundraiser is self-led and physically distanced so we thought it was a great way to start getting our supporters used to physically coming out to support us since it has been such a long time away from live fundraising events. We also think this concept is really fun!”
Registration is open until September 10 here.
