They are impressive stats.
Huntsville native Jason Knox is a freshman playing NCAA Division 1 lacrosse on an academic scholarship at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York. He plays the attack position, and in just his second collegiate game he broke the Northeast Conference (NEC) record for goals in a single game (nine) and currently leads the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletics Association) shooting percentage at .768 with 11 goals in 14 shots.
The Hobart Statesmen started their lacrosse season in February 2019 with Jason on the starting line-up. The team’s February 16 game against Siena where Jason scored those nine goals—eight of them in the first half—was one to remember.
His mom, Dr. Jocelyn Knox, was unable to attend the game but listened in on Hobart radio.
“The radio announcer started saying Jason was Hobart’s first attack man ‘crease specialist’ that they haven’t had in quite some time,” she said. With his eighth goal, Jason surpassed the Hobart School Division 1 record. His ninth goal elevated the school record and set a new NEC record for goals scored in a single game.
“This last nine-goal game is what I can remember most right now as it is the highest competition I have come in my career so far,” said Jason. “The team is making me look good too. What I do, couldn’t be done without them.”

Hey @_jknox18, you’re waking up the @NECmlax record holder for goals in a game! Your 9️⃣ goals are the most by a Statesman since May 21, 1969, when John Topichak scored 14 vs. @BportAthletics.#GoStatesmen | #NECmlax pic.twitter.com/N0lnqELovm

Jason’s nine goals are the most scored in a game in the entire NCAA so far this season, and he is tied for 20th on the all-time list, added Jocelyn.

Jason’s name was also added to the NEC Men’s Lacrosse list of Prime Performers and he received a Rookie of the Week nod from NEC Sports.
Jason began playing lacrosse at the age of three. He played Huntsville Hawks minor box and field lacrosse, as well as on his high school lacrosse team, receiving MVP awards along the way.
“I have received a couple of National awards when playing three years for the U18 Team Ontario Men’s Field Lacrosse team at the Nationals and in the Brogden Cup. I also received the Joey Nieuwendyk Rookie of the Year award for JR A Box lacrosse while playing for Burlington who drafted me from Midget,” added Jason.
Jason is grateful to be able to play the sport he loves.
“Lacrosse is truly a part of me as it is something I have always done and I have a family history in the sport,” he said. His grandfather was Canadian lacrosse great, Jack Bionda.
Jason shared that he also feels lucky to be able to play lacrosse as he recently lost a hometown teammate. “I also now play for those that don’t have the option to play, due to opportunity or personal choices or health concerns,” he said.
As for the future, Jason hopes to declare a major next year once he knows what discipline he would like to pursue, and post-college he has his sights set on playing pro in both box and field lacrosse.
