Local artists and personalities bring their individual flair to the canvas

Who knew great art could be created in an hour? Well, apparently Huntsville Public Library’s Chief Librarian Deborah Duce did, because that’s exactly what happened on June 30 when approximately 15 artists and a few local personalities gathered in the library to transform a canvas in an hour.

Duce said the inspiration for the day come from Ron Murdoch. “I’m friends with Ron Murdoch on Facebook,” Duce said, “and one week he posted one amazing painting after another. I asked where he was getting the great paintings and he said, ‘Deb, I do these in an hour.’ I thought, wow, what if we tried art in an hour in the library. We connected with the Huntsvllle Arts Society and they loved the idea. And we put out a call to our council rep Brian Thompson and councillors Karin Terziano and Nancy Alcock who also agreed to participate.”

The finished canvases are now on display in the library and will be available for sale beginning on Monday, July 10. They may be purchased at the check-out desk for $75 plus HST. Net proceeds will go to the Art in the Library fund to help support artists in the community and their displays in the library.

The paintings by Karen Cassian, Karin Terziano, Beverley Hawksley, Sandy McLennan, Bev Clark, Brian Thompson, Pat Whittle, Tracy Dickie, Nancy Alcock, Wendy Moses, Anthony Welch, Pat Hillcoat, Marike MacDonald, Diane Thoms, Helena Renwick, and Pam Carnochan, are now on display and available for purchase at the Huntsville Public Library.
