Art Fx is a year-long series on Huntsville Doppler featuring Huntsville-area visual artists.
“Get a Grip” by Mark Kulas is an acrylic painting of a nuthatch on canvas measuring 9” x 12”.
“This nuthatch is one of my bird feeder’s frequent visitors with a talent for defying gravity while shovelling through the mix until it finds a peanut. I find the local bird population an endless source of amusement, inspiration, and distraction,” says Kulas.
His stylized paintings depict the wildlife and wilderness of the Ottawa Valley, Algonquin Park, and Muskoka.
“When I’m not working in graphic design or training and competing in bike events, kayak races, cross country skiing, and other athletic pursuits, I paint at the family cottage on Bella Lake and at home in Pembroke,” he says. “My vehicle usually has a canoe or kayak on the roof, ready for exploring some inviting lake or river; I am always observing my environment for reference and subject matter.”
“Get a Grip” is a 9″ x 12″ acrylic on canvas. It is available for $480.
