Art Fx is a year-long series on Huntsville Doppler featuring Huntsville-area visual artists.
Jenny Kirkpatrick is a professional photographer living in Huntsville, Ontario. An ardent amateur for many years, she began her commercial, stock and fine art business in 1996. She also teaches creative photography.
Once she had a solid grasp of the photographic tools and rules, Jenny discovered the joy of breaking them, and has continued on this path ever since. Her work reflects that creative freedom, ranging from dramatic realism to total abstraction.
While documentary photography is certainly part of her repertoire, Jenny’s main goal is to use light, tones and movement to express emotion. Her images echo her passion for exploring the outdoors and being playful with her camera.
Many of her images are the result of intentional camera movement. She also uses multiple exposures while moving the camera, as in “Dee River Trees”. The movement mixes colours and textures simplifying the environment in the frame.
Her work “The Shoreline” is made by panning the camera horizontally to soften the breaking waves while accentuating the fall of the evening light.
Jenny’s images have been showcased in numerous publications including PhotoLife and Canadian Geographic, and she has exhibited her work in shows locally and provincially.
Jenny is in the (lengthy) process of refreshing her aging website and building her social media presence. You can find her online here: jennykirkpatrickphoto.com
