With the help of 15 team captains and 95 canvassers, the Huntsville Branch (and surrounding area) of the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) raised more than $50,000 this year. Funds were raised through the daffodil pin campaign as well as the door-to-door campaign during the month of April.
The CCS is grateful for the support from all the volunteers, businesses and donors, says Brenda MacGregor, Senior Manager, Simcoe-Muskoka Community Office & Holland River Community Office of the Canadian Cancer Society.
“Thanks to the generosity from communities like Huntsville, the CCS will continue to fund innovative research into all types of cancer, advocate for healthy public policies that benefit all Canadians, provide compassionate support and information services to patients and their families, and focus on other important work that could change the future of this disease,” said MacGregor.
In Huntsville alone last year, volunteer drivers through the Wheels of Hope transportation program drove 97,802 kilometres and provided 676 trips to 24 clients from the Huntsville area to cancer treatment, costing $30,350.
“Together, we’ll create a world where no one fears cancer,” said MacGregor.
