Annular solar eclipse expected today

An annular solar eclipse is expected today, Saturday, October 14, 2023. An annular eclipse appears as a partial eclipse over thousands of kilometres.

Throughout the day the Sun, Moon, and Earth will line up perfectly to produce a solar eclipse, which will appear as a ring of fire. People in Ontario may simply notice the day get a little dimmer for a couple of hours at around lunchtime.

Observers will have an extraordinary view along a path from Oregon to Texas in the United States, as well as south across the Yucatan Peninsula, through Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, and northern Brazil. From there, they will have a chance to witness the Sun and Moon form a “ring of fire” eclipse.

It is only expected to be visible in certain parts of the U.S. from Oregon to Texas and parts of Central and South America.
